Description

The Rometa aerial hopper is an overhead transport system for fresh concrete connecting the mixing plant to the production machine.

It is installed when there are different loading points, two mixers, and different discharge points, feeding different precast machines.

It allows quick discharge of the mixer, freeing it up and increasing its capacity.

Also ideal for long distances where a belt cannot be used.

The system is much cleaner than a belt.

It can also discharge outside the plant for cleaning or in case of poor-quality concrete.

Bi-rail system.

Features & advantages

Key components of the installation.

  • Transports the mix to the block machine.
  • Recommended when there is a considerable distance between the batching plant and the discharge point.
  • Cleaner and faster system than a conveyor belt.

Additional technical information about aggregates

How aggregate selection, classification and dosing affect concrete quality.

Selecting the right aggregates is essential for achieving good-quality final products: the goal is a piece with the hardness and mechanical properties required by international standards, using as little cement as possible. The amount of water is the most decisive factor, as it changes the aggregate and, with it, the machine's behaviour both when filling the mould and compressing the piece.

Main characteristics of aggregates

  • Hardness
  • Weight
  • Finish
  • Dimensions

The piece's weight should be kept as low as possible to ease transport and on-site placement.

Classification by grain size

  • Fine aggregates: grain under 0.1 mm
  • Sand: 0.1–5 mm
  • Gravel: 5–8 mm

Aggregates cannot be larger than a third of the piece's wall thickness.

Dosing

  • By weight: the desired amount of each aggregate is weighed
  • By volume: the feed time of each aggregate is regulated (a simpler system)

For good dosing, three hoppers with aggregates of different grain sizes are recommended (two as a minimum), avoiding variations in moisture content.

Recommended mix

  • 45% medium aggregate
  • 40% coarse aggregate
  • 15% fine aggregate

Powder helps the cement form a paste that properly binds all the grains: too little means more cement and water are needed, while too much prevents a strong piece, so it should not exceed 5% by weight of the total aggregates.

Frequently asked questions about this model

When is an overhead hopper better than a conveyor belt?
When there's a large distance between the batching plant and the production machine: the overhead hopper carries the concrete through the air instead of along the ground, reducing material contamination and giving more precise dosing in a cleaner, faster system than a conveyor belt.
